MORE POWERFUL THAN WE THINK
Each month millions of women around the globe find themselves bed-bound, that, motherhood and being wives are what connect us. It's not a backward mindset. Generations before us found themselves sitting around teapots talking about the trials and tribulations of being women. But Today we don't find matriarchal societies even though we have been given that power. We use words like "independent" to separate ourselves. We find women who rant on Facebook about other women. The same technology that informs and allows us to connect and support one another also causes so much disconnection among women.
We are a young generation where more than 60 % of the population is made up of the youth. According to latest statistics in Botswana, the literacy rate among females aged 15 and above is 84 percent. More girls are enrolled in secondary schools compared to boys.Three-quarters of adult women participate in the labor force. Gender inequality is reflected in the country’s human development ranking.
Botswana is even ranked 109 of 157 countries in the Gender-related Development Index. Therefore I honestly feel women need empowerment and unity above all. This is good for economic growth also! Though we have some countries resisting women empowerment in some parts of Africa and Asia we still need to educate women and society as a whole that women also have untapped potential!
Lets look at Botswana for a while, mostly single women raise families. Eish,it comes to me that we also need men empowerment!!! Anyway there are those who are already before you in this area, you should check out this website: www.emangbasadi.org.bw it is there that you will find other organizations which carry the same heartbeat!
